Degree in Applied Information Technology (SLTC Programme)

The Degree programme in Applied Information Technology (DAIT) at Sri Lanka Technological Campus was initiated through the computer laboratories of Youth Corps and National Youth Services Council. The Applied Information Technology degree programme offered by Sri Lanka Technological Campus is conducted utilizing 76 computer laboratories of the National Youth Services Council and Youth Corps. It is a great opportunity for the youth to have a degree in the field of information technology whatever the subject they sat for the G.C.E. (A/L) examination obtaining S pass in any stream are eligible to enroll this degree programme. Moreover, it is unique that the degree programme has prepared as a full time course and as convenient to follow while engaging in any employment or other educational purpose.

The programme of introducing 75 youth agri entrepreneurs concurrent to the 75th Independence Day celebration.

A program to nationally introduce 75 young agri-entrepreneurs who are engaged in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and plantations, focused on export and adding value to products. This program is implemented under the patronage of the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of a number of government institutions including the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Plantation Industries.

 

It has been decided to commence the programme selecting approximately 150 among the applications received from 17000 agricultural entrepreneurs registered in the National Youth Services Council.

National Youth Policy

The ministry is collaborating with UNDP, UNV and WHO to develop this policy with the goal of ensuring equal rights for the youth community and establishing a platform for their empowerment through the revision of the National Youth Policy drafted in 2014.

Youth Data System

For the consideration on the future approach of the remaining youth who are approximately 25,000 in addition to the 50000 youth who are entering into higher education annually in the country, a new data updating system (e – youth database) on youth community will be proceed utilizing resources of Information Technology Division of National Youth Services Council.

Drug Prevention Programme

Functions have been arranged for the implementation of programmes with National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and National Authority on Tobacco & Alcohol on the prevention of the youth community from drug abuse and for the rehabilitation of drug users and Youth Corps (YC), National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and Small Enterprises Development Division (SEDD) have also joined this purpose. Programmes to be implemented for this purpose have been recognized and the capability of implementing those programmes has observed. Accordingly, programmes will be organized and implemented together with National Youth Services Council, Youth Corps, Small Enterprises Development Division, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and National Authority on Tobacco & Alcohol.

Youth Empowerment Programme Asia Pacific (UNDP)

Three projects have been already planned with National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and National Authority on Tobacco & Alcohol for this purpose. At that point, it will be carried out restructuring the training syllabus of Youth Corps, capacity building of the officers of Small Enterprises Development Division, contribution for the development affairs of the unit on climate change of National Youth Services Council. In addition to that, workshops are being scheduled to conduct by Small Enterprises Development Division and Youth Corps.

. Combined Approach Programme

Arrangement of plans, following up and supervision by recognizing youth development priorities covering the island through youth development committees which are established in divisional, district, provincial and national level will be carried out by this programme with the participation of this Ministry, organizations under the Ministry, other Ministries which are in the field of youth development, departments, statutory institutions, provincial councils, provincial ministries, district and divisional administrative institutions, non-governmental organizations and private sector recognizing the requirements of the whole youth community to address those requirements more effectively. Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs circular no 01/2023 dated 31.03.2023 has been issued heading “Functioning in a manner of combined approach for youth development” and the affairs of establishing youth development committees in divisional and district level throughout the country is being in progress.

National Action Plan for Sex and Gender Based Violation (SGBV)

Development of a multi sectorial National Action Plan has been initiated for resolving sex and gender based violation in Sri Lanka with the technical and financial assistance of UNDP by the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment.

Youth CAN Programme

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has implemented this programme on the purpose of appreciating the talents and skills of the youth with affiliated institutions to the Ministry together with Dialog Axiata PLC.
