Sri Lanka and Pakistan Strengthen Sports Diplomacy Ties
COLOMBO: A high-level diplomatic delegation led by Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Interior and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), currently visiting Sri Lanka for the 2026 T20 World Cup, held a special discussion with Sri Lanka's Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
The Director General of Sports, Mr. S. Achchudan, was also present at the meeting.
During the discussion, the Pakistani Minister emphasized that the Government of Pakistan and the PCB extend their special gratitude to Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage for the exceptional hospitality and for creating a conducive environment for the crucial India-Pakistan World Cup match held in Sri Lanka.
The Minister further stated that this meeting served as a strong foundation for further enhancing cooperation in the field of sports between the two nations.
The delegation included Major General (R) Faheem Ul Aziz (High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka), Hon. Chaudhry Salik Hussain (Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & HRD), Amir Mir (Special Advisor to Chairman PCB), Sumair Ahmad Syed (COO, PCB), Muhammad Salman Liaqat (Director International Coordination, Ministry of Interior), Ms. Zunaira Latif (Deputy High Commissioner), and Salman Naseer (CEO, PSL).
Discussions also focused on launching special exchange programs for youth skill development and obtaining technical cooperation for future sports projects under the guidance of the Director General of Sports.
